Stanford Scientists Discover Natural Alternative to Ozempic for Weight Loss

United States: Scientists at Stanford Medicine identified a natural molecule they think resembles the active part of diabetes medications, which proves to be effective for weight loss.

Experimental findings from the Nature publication indicate that BRP acts as a natural substance that reduces appetite and helps weight loss while avoiding nausea-related side effects in both mice and pigs, as reported by The Hills

A Safer Alternative to Semaglutide?

This discovery has the potential to help patients struggling with severe side effects associated with Wegovy and Ozempic treatment. These effects include pancreas inflammation together with changes in vision and thyroid cancer risks and other complications.

“The receptors targeted by semaglutide are found in the brain but also in the gut, pancreas, and other tissues,” said assistant professor of pathology Katrin Svensson. “That’s why Ozempic has widespread effects, including slowing the movement of food through the digestive tract and lowering blood sugar levels. In contrast, BRP appears to act specifically in the hypothalamus, which controls appetite and metabolism.”

Hope for Millions Struggling with Obesity

The increased sales of Ozempic and Wegovy drugs faced difficulties due to supply limitations and insurance obstacles making treatments difficult to obtain for numerous patients, as reported by The Hills.

The CDC reports that more than 100 million American adults meet the criteria for obesity with a body mass index over 30 and the severely obese population exceeds 22 million adults who have a body mass index of 40 or higher.
