United States: British researchers have come up with an AI that helps with the precision of individuals likely to develop a life-threatening heart condition before experiencing symptoms, the BBC highlighted.

The AI system was created by scientists of the University of Leeds and Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust to predict potential early signs of atrial fibrillation (AF), a condition that leads to irregular and rapidly beating heart rates, as defined by the BBC.

How the AI Works

It also assesses patient information such as age, gender, race, and other medical conditions like diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular diseases to arrive at various risk rates.

It was trained on anonymized health records of more than 2.1 million people and tested on 10 million records, Sky News reported.

Real-World Trials Underway

In the continuous trial in West Yorkshire, patients categorized as high-risk are prescribed a portable ECG machine to record the heart rhythm for a month, as reported by The Hills.

If successful, one can only imagine the researcher’s desire to take the test across the country.
